Am I a Candidate for Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)?
Men and women who have recently undergone a dramatic weight loss, women who’ve had multiple pregnancies, as well as people who have a difficult time losing weight in their midsection may be good candidates for abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) with Honolulu surgeon Dr. Shim Ching.
Abdominoplasty, also known as tummy tuck, is a procedure in which the excess skin and fat in the midsection is removed and the muscles of the abdomen are tightened. When the muscles of the abdomen become loose or separated, the abdomen sticks out. This happens with many moms, as the womb can stretch beyond the abdominal muscles’ ability to retract after giving birth. This combination of skin that has lost its elasticity and weakened abdominal muscles produce a stubborn bulge. A tummy tuck removes that loose skin and sutures the muscles closer together, giving the abdomen a way to lie flat once it heals. The remaining skin is then closed over the newly flattened abdominal muscles to create a more contoured, flattering midsection.
Often, abdominoplasty may be done in conjunction with other procedures. Liposuction is perhaps the most common among our Honolulu patients, because stubborn fat can easily reside in the abdominal area. Other frequent complements to a tummy tuck are breast lift (as in a mommy makeover) or thigh lift.
