What is a Brazilian butt lift?

A Brazilian butt lift is an innovative procedure that enhances and reshapes the buttocks using excess fat from other areas of the body. Fat is harvested using a special technique to ensure that it will survive when it is injected back into the buttocks. In addition to enhancing the buttocks, other areas such as the abdomen and lower back are improved during the fat collection process. Dr. Ching believes that contouring the lower back is important as well, as it accentuates the shape of the buttocks.

How is a Brazilian butt lift performed?

Dr. Ching performs the Brazilian butt lift in Honolulu, Hawaii as an outpatient surgery in his on-site surgical center. Because a large quantity of fat is usually required to enhance the buttocks, this procedure can take 3 to 4 hours to perform. Dr. Ching often must collect fat from the abdomen, flanks, inner and outer thighs, and sometimes even the back.

Dr. Ching begins the procedure by carefully removing fat using liposuction under lower suction than normal to avoid damaging the fat cells. After the fat is harvested, it is purified so that only fat cells that are most likely to remain viable are placed into the buttocks. Dr. Ching then carefully injects the purified fat into the buttocks a little at a time to optimize the amount of fat that will survive. As he injects the fat, he sculpts the buttocks by carefully layering small threads of fat under the skin, over the muscle. Through this meticulous process, he maximizes the amount of fat that survives and provides the most attractive results.
